| Overview
Bali Pass trek lies in the Himalayas and is at an altitude of 4953 m. It is a connecting pass that connects Har Ki Dun and the Ruinsara Valley with the Yamunotri Valley. Bali Pass trekking is not for everyone, but for true adventure lovers, the thrill of this trek is much more than you can expect. The challenging trails of Bali Pass make it one of the most difficult treks.
It is a difficult trek intended only for experienced Trekkers. The Bali Pass trek starts from Sankri village in Uttarkashi district Uttarakhand and ends at Janki Chatti. This trek offers magnificent panoramic views of the Bandarpoonch, Kalanag, and Swargarohini peaks. The alpine meadows of Dev Thach in the middle of the Ruinsara forest are a sight to behold. Ruinsara Lake has an incomparable beauty and majesty with a mythological story associated with it. Trek Bali Pass should be among tourists who want to experience nature in all its beauty and push their limits. The best months for the Bali Pass trek are from May to June and from September to October. With challenging terrains, steep ascents and descents, thrilling pass crossings, and narrow trails, one must have very good physical and mental stamina to undertake this trek successfully. Considered to be one of the most unexplored routes in the Indian Himalayas, the Bali Pass Trek is for adventurers who want to do unconventional treks.
Bali Pass trek has several major attractions that limit the mind to visit this place. The picturesque Debshu Bugyal meadow in the middle of Ruinsara forest with stunning views of Kala Nag mountain and Swargarohini is bliss for tourists to camp here. Undulating meadows surround this unique lake named “Ruinsara Lake” and lie in the middle of the Swargarohini range. The beautiful views of Govind Pashu National Park and Ruinsara Valley are captivating.
| Best time to visit:-
Summer: Bali Pass is good during the summer season from April to mid-June. The calm and pleasant summer sun and evening make the trek more pleasant.
Monsoon: In monsoon, the trek route is muddy and slippery. It is better to avoid risky places trekking in this season.
Spring: The spring month from mid-September to early November is considered the best time to trek Bali Pass. Trekking is fun with lush greenery all around and calm weather.
Winter: Bali Pass will be closed in winter due to heavy snowfall and closed trails.
| Itinerary:
Day 1 : Dehradun to Sankri
- Drive Duration: 7-8 hours
- Drive Distance: 210 km
- Altitude: 6,299 ft
Highlight:
- Our pick-up point is Dehradun railway station or ISBT, Then drive towards Sankri where you can have breakfast at Kempty Fall which is a famous picnic spot and famous for its waterfall. Have lunch midway in Purola.
- It is a scenic drive to Sankri, you will get beautiful views from the window and therefore the drive will pass through Dehradun, Mussoorie, Nainbagh, Damta, Newman, Purola, Mori, and Naitwar, these are beautiful places in the Himalayas.
- Reach Sankri (view of snowy mountains).
Day 2: Sankri to Taluka to Seema
- Drive Distance: 12 km
- Drive Duration: 1 hour
- Trek distance: 12 km
- Trek Duration: 6 hours
- Altitude: 8,858 ft
Highlight:
- On this day after breakfast take a taxi to Taluka, which is 11 km from Sankri. When you reach there, take a short break and start your trek towards Cheludgad, the trail will take you through pine forest, there are various kinds of animals living in this area. It is rich in flora and fauna. The trail is rough and not in good condition, walk through the dense forest, the trees accompany you and you can see faints hanging from one tree to another. The state bird ‘Himalayan Monal’ of Uttarakhand is found in this region.
- If you don’t have time to reach Cheludgad camp, then 2 km before there is a camp near the stream which is the source of water for this camp. Pitch your tents and enjoy dinner and overnight in tents.
Day 3: Seema to Devsu Bugyal
- Trek distance: 7 km
- Trek Duration: 5 hours
- Altitude: 9,842 ft
Highlight:
- Have breakfast and start your journey towards Devsu Bugyal (packed lunch will be provided). Once the trek starts and you slowly climb, you will get amazing views of wide valleys and snow-capped mountains. These views are breathtaking and the view of waterfalls adds to their beauty. Bring plenty of water, at least 2 litres, from the campsite or refill from natural sources on the way.
- A walk through a dense forest, rich in foliage and flora, many wildflowers grow here. The best thing about the forest is that it is home to some rare species that are rarely found anywhere else, the trail through this forest is a great way to spot different kinds of animals and birds.
- Continue trekking and after overcoming the last steep climb you will reach Devsu Bugyal, camping here is a pleasure, this meadow is picturesque in the middle of Ruinsara forest with amazing views of Kala Nag and Swargarohini mountain. Stay here for the night and enjoy a relaxing stay in the tents.
Day 4: Devsu Bugyal to Ruinsara Lake
- Trek distance: 12 km
- Trek Duration: 7 hours
- Altitude: 11,483 ft
Highlight:
- It’s a long trek today, so take plenty of water and have a good breakfast before starting the trek. Enjoy the mesmerising views that this place offers throughout your trek, you almost have to climb until you reach Ruinsara Lake. You will find loose stones on the trail and the path is muddy and sometimes slippery. Trek along the river Supin, this is the last day of trekking along this river.
- Cross the Supin River via a bridge to reach Ruinsara Lake, also known as “Ruinsara Taal”. It is surrounded by rolling meadows and lies in the middle of the Swargarohini range.
- Here is the Yamunotri Temple, one of the Char Dhams and the Yamunotri River which is the source of the Yamuna, the views of Bandarpoonch, Kala Nag and Swargarohini never leave you. Walk along the river and you will reach your campsite where you can rest for the night.
Day 5: Lake Ruinsara to Odari
- Trek distance: 7km
- Trek Duration: 5 hours
- Altitude: 13,451 ft
Highlight:
- Today’s walking distance is 7 km from Ruinsara Lake to Odari (a packed lunch is provided for you to have in the middle of the trek.)
- Bali Pass Trekking is a forest along the river, it is pleasant to walk along the calm and sweet water in places that are least explored. It takes 5 hours to reach Odari camp, has lunch mid-trek. Rest and drive to your campsite.
- Odari is a rock cave where “Bali” spent one night. (Hanuman’s brother). It’s a beautiful camp where you can enjoy the views in a divine setting, tomorrow is your trek to Bali Pass, so take proper food and rest in the tents to have good energy for tomorrow.
Day 6: Odari to the top of Bali Pass(16,250) to Upper Damnai Camp
- Trek distance: 6km
- Trek Duration: 7 hours
- Altitude: 15,092 ft
Highlight:
- The hardest day has come with enormous challenges, you have to beat them and successfully complete the climb to the top (4953m). Have an early breakfast with a packed lunch so you can leave on time. The trail is covered with snow so bring appropriate trekking gear, the snow ridges are steep and some are flat.
- The snow makes Bali a trekking challenge, the distance seems too long and you can get tired here, so taking rest breaks and then climbing the last ridge is exciting, finding the right path is difficult due to a large amount of snow. When you reach the top, you can see a glimpse of the Yamunotri valley.
- Now the connecting ridge is visible, it is a sharp climb to Bali Pass which is steep but it is only 10 minutes, once you reach the top the panoramic views will blow your mind. Yamunotri, Bandarpoonch, Ruinsara, and Black peak all glitter together. Descent, when descending you need to be very careful, use gear and slide down. Sliding down can cover a lot of distance in less time and it’s fun too. When you go down you will see snow fields and there are many paths you can go down, after some time the forest of Upper and Lower Damnai will be visible, it is difficult to get there so be careful when going down.
- Your campsite is in the Upper Damnai area, it is a small camping site with a stream running around it. Today was a tough day, so have a great meal and a relaxing stay in the tents.
Day 7: Upper Damnai Camp to Yamunotri Temple and Jan ki Chatti
- Trek distance: 12km
- Trek Duration: 6 hours
- Altitude: 8,448 ft
Highlight:
- Today visit Yamunotri Temple which is one of the Char Dham Temples. Yamunotri River is the source of the “Yamuna River” and is the daughter of God “Surya”. This place is famous for its hot spring where people bathe. Visit this holy place and leave for Jan Ki Chatti.
- The descent is steep and the trail is connected to the old Yamunotri trail, you go there and know about the values of the people, then you leave for Jan Ki Chatti, the trail is well marked and properly built and it takes you two hours of trekking.
Day 8: Jan ki Chatti to Dehradun
- Drive Duration: 9-10 hours,
- Drive Distance: 178 km
- Altitude: 6,299 ft
- From Jan Ki Chatti you can take a jeep or bus to Dehradun.

- Expert Trek Support Team – The mountain staff on this trek consists of certified guides, cooks, helpers, and porters.
- Transfers – Transport from Dehradun to Sankari on Day 1st to Lohajung to Dehradun on Day 8th is included.

Confirmation Policy
- The customer receives a confirmation voucher via email within 24 hours of successful booking.
- In case the preferred slots are unavailable, an alternate schedule of the customer’s preference will be arranged and a new confirmation voucher will be sent via email.
- Alternatively, the customer may choose to cancel their booking before confirmation and a full refund will be processed.
Refund Policy
- The applicable refund amount will be processed within 10 business days.
- All applicable refunds will be credited to the client’s respective account.
Cancellation Policy
- In case of cancellation 15 days before the travel date, 15% of the total cost of the tour will be charged as cancellation fees
- In case of cancellation 7 days to 15 days before the travel date, 20% of the total cost of the tour will be charged as cancellation fees
- If canceled between 0 days and 7 days before the travel date, you will be charged 100% of the total cost of the tour as cancellation fees
